Enhancing the Quality of Survey Data on Woman Abuse

Examples from a National Canadian Study

WALTER S. DeKESEREDY

Carleton University

The primary objective of DeKeseredy and Kelly's national Canadian survey on woman abuse in university/college courtship was to elicit reliable data on the extent, patterns, and sources of male-to-female psychological, sexual, and physical victimization in postsecondary school dating. In this article, I describe these researchers' attempts to avoid or minimize the methodological shortcomings of previous North American surveys on this sensitive topic and conclude with two suggestions for further survey research.
